The notebook has failed to announce a single update. It has no dashboard. A senior stakeholder would like to know how we measure its contribution.
Working by hand introduces small delays. You redraw a shape instead of duplicating it. You turn a page instead of opening another tab. Sometimes that inconvenience gives an idea enough time to become something other than the first available answer.
That does not make paper morally superior to a screen. It makes it a different working condition. Try sketching a difficult relationship on one sheet before returning to the software. The point is to think with fewer opportunities to tidy prematurely.
Give the experiment a task and a limit. Twenty minutes on a confusing navigation problem is more useful than buying a beautiful notebook and waiting for it to provide a personality.
When something works, photograph it and move on. The sketch does not need to become precious.
You are allowed to use a cheap pen. The industry has not yet established a certification programme for thinking, although someone is probably building the landing page.
